|
Mile 0 of the Trans-Canada highway in British Columbia begins in Victoria, at the south end of Douglas Street at
the intersection with Dallas
Road.
They have erected a sign here “Mile 0”. From this point you are overlooking the
Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State, USA.
Although
the highway runs north and south on the island it is the western terminus of
the Trans-Canada highway. The island’s
eastern end (really north end) of the portion of the highway ends in the BC
Ferry terminal at Departure Bay in Nanaimo. The highway continues east on the mainland
from the Horseshoe bay terminal. It is
70 miles (113 Km) to the east (really north) end on the Highway at Departure Bay
in Nanaimo.

7 blocks – Junction with Highway 17 – Angle to the
right at this junction will take you up Highway 17 to Sidney &
Swartz Bay to the Washington State and BC ferries and Victoria International
Airport.

to the left North of Superior Street – to stay on Highway 1 (Douglas Street)

8 blocks – Bellevelle Street – If you turn left
here and go one block you will be a Victoria’s
Inner Harbor. On your left will be one of the finest
museums in the world, on your right will be the Empress Hotel and Victoria
Convention Center, in front of you on the right will be the Inner Harbor with
its ferries, yachts, and aircraft, and in front of you on the left will be
the Parliament Building and several Hotels.

Avenue – Turn east (right if northbound) to
access Highway 17 to Highway 17 to Sidney &

3.4 – (5.5 Km) Highway 1 turns west off of Douglas Street and becomes the Trans-Canada Highway.

is located 6 blocks south of exit at the intersection of Millstream Road and Goldstream Ave.

destination with its quaint shops and many wall murals.

The Town of Ladysmith
has a Population of about 6,500.
Ladysmith lies on the 49th Parallel, the border between the
United States and Canada. The boundary curves below the island
through the main channels and out the Strait of Juan de Fuca keeping all of
