Highway 17 is listed from South (in south Victoria) to
north (Swartz Bay)
Mile 0 of the Trans-Canada highway in British
Columbia begins in Victoria, at the south end of Douglas Street at the
intersection with Dallas Road. They
have erected a sign here Mile 0.
From this point you are overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the
Olympic Peninsula in Washington State, USA.
For our purposes
this is also Mile 0 for Highway 17

blocks Junction with Highway 1 Angle to the left at this
junction will take you up Highway 1 to Nanaimo.
Angle
to the right North of Superior Street to stay on Highway 17 (Blanchard
Street) which goes north up the Saanich Peninsula to Sidney, the Washington
State Ferry Terminal, and the Swartz Bay ferry terminal of BC Ferries.
8 blocks Bellevelle Street If you turn left here
and go three blocks you will be at Victorias Inner Harbor. On your left will be one of the finest
museums in the world, on your right will be the Empress Hotel and Victoria
Convention Center, in front of you on the right will be the Inner Harbor with
its ferries, yachts, and aircraft, and in front of you on the left will be
the Parliament Building and several Hotels.
To Mile 2 you are in the heart of Downtown
Victoria on Blanchard Street

Mile 3 - (5 Km) Blanchard Street winds onto Vernon Avenue
then turns an angled right onto Douglas north of where Highway 1 turns west
off of Douglas Street. Highway 17
continues north on Douglas where it becomes the Patrica Bay Highway.
Mile 4.4 (7 Km) Interchange with McKenzie Ave
Mile 6.2 (10 Km) Interchange with Quadra
Ave. and West Saanich Road (Highway
17a). Highway 17a takes you up the
west side of the Saanich Peninsula past Butcharts Gardens and many fruit
stands and artists
Mile 6.8 (11 Km) Interchange with Royal Oak Drive
Mile 9.3 (15Km)
Basically from here you are headed north on the Saanich Peninsula
Mile 13.6 (22 Km) Mt. Newton Cross Road This
road cuts across the peninsula and goes over to the West Saanich Highway.
Mile 16 (26 Km)
McTavish Road Victoria International Airport left turn and
follow signs/ Washington State Ferry Terminal Turn right,
turn left on Lochside Drive, go four blocks (first right) to Ocean Ave, the

17.4 (28 Km) Beacon Avenue City of Sidney
east end of street is Sidney Pier and the passenger only ferry to Sidney
Spit Provincial Park. The city offers
the tourist many interesting things to do including taking the passenger
ferry to Sidney Spit Provincial Park
