The road from the Ferry terminal is both Highway 19 and Highway 19A as far as our listed mileages are concerned.. Highway 19 bypasses downtown Nanaimo and heads inland, away from the shore of the Strait of Georgia. Hence, the highway is called the “Bypass” by some locals and is formally named the “Island Inland Highway”. Highway 19 is the fastest way to get up-island to Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Courtenay, Comox, and Campbell River. This limited access highway is built for speed and bypasses the tourist facilities and views offered by the “Oceanside Route” Highway 19A. If you want to take the fastest highway click the button below. Traveling Northward on Highway 19A Mileage begins at the Duke Point ferry terminal of BC Ferries south of Nanaimo. Mile 0 – Duke Point Ferry Terminal of BC Ferries Mile 4 ( 7 Km) – Highway 1 / Victoria (southbound) Highway 1 / Nanaimo (northbound)
		From Mile 4 northward to Exit 9 the roadway is Highway 1 and Highway 19. Highway 19A exits with Highway 1 at Exit 9 and heads toward downtown Nanaimo.
