The SoMa District is one of Vancouver’s up and coming districts. SoMa is short for South Main Street. This area is also known at the Mount Pleasant. We have not found an explanation for the two names.

If you take the King George Highway- 99A south from the intersection of Hastings and Main Street in Chinatown you will go south on Main Street past the Pacific Railroad Station and a Skytrain station on the left (east) side of the road and the dome of Science World on the right at the end of False Creek.

Traveling a little further you will enter the numbered Avenues when you cross over 1^st Avenue. When you get to 7^th Avenue on Main Street the King George Highway (99-A) veers to the left. If you avoid the natural propensity to follow the traffic and go straight, staying on Main Street you will find yourself approaching what would be 9^th Avenue except the street’s name is Broadway.

From the intersection of Broadway and Main Street south on Main Street is the SoMa District. It runs from here to 33^rd Avenue. In the 24 blocks of the SoMa District you will find an ample supply of restaurants, art galleries, furniture stores, artist lofts, and clothing stores
