The
South Surrey area of Surrey, British Columbia, Canada is located in the
Lower Mainland just north of the Canada/US Border.
In the map below (not to the left) Surrey is in
golden-yellow to the left of the center bottom of the map of the Lower
Mainland. The map below that shows
the relative location of British Columbia’s Lower Mainland.
The map to the left is a road map of Surrey. The areas in yellow are areas bordering
Surrey. The Surrey neighborhoods are
shown in different colors.

The City of Surrey is a large area that extends 15 miles
(24 KM) from the US/Canada Border north to the Fraser River and 10 miles
(16 KM) east to west. The neighborhoods
of Surrey function much like cities in that they have central commercial
districts with surrounding residential areas. You will even find traffic signs that
treat them like cities. Probably the
only exception to this is South Surrey which is more agricultural than the
other neighborhoods. In south Surrey
there is the neighborhood of Sunnyside which is north of the City of White
Rock and it also functions like a city with a central commercial area and
surrounding residential areas.
The City of White Rock is not part of the City of Surrey
even though it is surrounded by Surrey on three sides and Boundary Bay on
the south.
South Surrey
The South Surrey District runs the width of Surrey. Its southern boundary is the US / Canadian border
and Boundary Bay and its northern boundary is Highway-10 and 56th
Avenue. Its western boundary is 120th Street
and its eastern boundary is 196th
Street.
Over 54,000 people live in this district and
that does not include the people who live in White Rock, that is a separate
municipality. There are two border
crossings to and from the United States into this area; the International
Peace Arch Crossing and the Truck Crossing, both are in the City of Surrey,
BC and Blaine, WA.

Where is Whalley?
The Whalley and City Center area of Surrey are
most easily found by taking highway-99A, The King George Highway north from
Exit 10 (King George Highway) on Highway-99 6.3 miles (10 KM) north of the
US/Canada Peace Arch border crossing at Blaine. Travel about 9 miles north on the King
George Highway and you will find yourself in Whalley.
