Its western border is 120th Street and its eastern border is 196th Street.  The only exception to this area is the City of White Rock which is located along Boundary Bay in the southwest corner of Surrey.  White Rock is a separate city from Surrey.  It is shown in light yellow on the map to the left.

Traveling to Vancouver From the

Peace Arch Border Crossing

Interstate 5 ends at the Canadian Border in Blaine, Washington right beside the famous Peace Arch.  However, the road continues on after you pass through the border crossing but is numbered Highway-99 in Canada.  Following Highway-99 is the simplest route into downtown Vancouver.  This route is very crowded and we suggest avoiding the route during the morning and evening rush hours

The Gateway

The Surrey area is located between the Fraser River and the US Border southeast of the City of Vancouver.  The Delta District is to the West and the Township of Langley is to the East.

The Gateways between the United States and Canada are the two border crossings at Surrey’s southern boundary at Blaine, Washington, the Peace Arch Crossing on BC Highway-99 / Interstate 5 and the truck crossing on Pacific Highway (BC Highway-15) (176th Street) / Washington Highway 543, are open 24 hours a day.  The truck crossing also is open to passenger vehicles.

Getting around in Surrey

One interesting note about getting around is that the Surrey is laid out on a 1 mile square grid of main streets.  The north south streets of 120th, 128th, 136th (King George Highway), 144th, and 152nd  are main north south roads.  The east west roads of 56th Ave (Highway-10), 64th Avenue, 72nd Ave, 80th Ave., 88th Ave., 96th Ave., and 104th Avenue are also one mile apart and are through streets.  The streets inside these grids (8 blocks) are residential and most of them are laid out in such a way that they are not through streets, keeping the traffic to the main arterials.  This grid tends to disappear south of Highway-10 in the South Surrey district. In general the main highways; Trans-Canada-1, Hwy-99, and the Fraser Valley Highway do not follow the grid and go at angles to the grid.
