WA-OceanBeaches-N Westport, WA is located in Grays Harbor County on the south peninsula of the opening into Grays Harbor. This location is also know as Point Chehalis. Grays harbor is close to the middle of Washington State’s Pacific Coast.

Westport, Washington is not known for its Pacific Ocean Beaches even though it has them. Westport is known for its protected yacht harbor which houses its famous charter ocean fishing fleet.

Recently, Westport has become of interest to the surfing crowd. Often there is high surf along the opening into Grays Harbor.

With increased interest in whale watching many charter boats also offer trips out to observe the whales in their annual migration.

The first white settlers arrived in the area in 1857 and by 1914 Westport was a small but busy fishing and shell fish harvesting port. Tourism was beginning to become an important factor in the community.

The Westport lighthouse was dedicated on April 14, 1914. It still stands as a beacon to mariners. The City of Westport was incorporated on June 26, 1914.

Today Westport has a population of a little over 2,000 people and its economy still relies on tourism, fishing, and seafood processing.
