WA-Counties01-snohomish.jpg

Mukilteo, WA is located on Puget Sound in northwestern Washington State.  Mukilteo, Washington is also located in Snohomish County.  Snohomish County is shown in red on the Washington State Map to the left.

The population of Mukilteo is over 18,000.  One of the main draws to Mukilteo is the Washington State Ferry Terminal that connects the mainland to Whidbey Island at Clinton.

Most of Mukilteo is located on a hillside that faces north and west.

The terrain gives the city a lot of view property and that leads into Mukilteo being a very affluent city.  To the north Mukilteo has views of the Canadian Cascades and to the west Mukilteo has views of the Olympic Mountains.

Where is Mukilteo?

Mukilteo is most easily found by taking Interstate-5 Exit 189 and traveling west on WA 526.  WA-526 will take you west for about 4.5 miles past the Boeing Company’s Everett Plant and turn north at Nelson’s Corner to take you almost 2 miles to the Ferry Landing and the downtown area.  The city is about 25 miles north of Seattle and about 6 miles southwest of Everett.

The Mukilteo Light Station

The 1906 Mukilteo Light Station is located on Mukilteo’s waterfront.  The lighthouse was automated in 1979 and in 1996 the two Coast Guard Families that lived in the housing at the light left.   Today the lighthouse is owned by the city but the Coast Guard still maintains the automated light.

Tours of the lighthouse are conducted by the Mukilteo Historical Society.  The Historical society also produced and maintains the displays at the sight.  In 1995 the Historical Society purchased a Fourth Order Fresnel lens originally designed and installed in the Dosedemona Sands Lighthouse at the mouth of the Columbia River, saving it from destruction.  It is on display at the lighthouse.
