We recommend
Birch Bay State Park
Birch Bay, near
Blaine, WA is a very unique bay that has expansive sand flats when the tide is
out. People walk for miles and children play on these
sand flats. The road is right along the
beach for most of the bay so that there are few buildings between you and the
view. Much of the beach is private, but
the County has many access points along the beach.
Birch Bay State
Park is located at the Southern end of the bay and has a large day use area
right on the beach with tables, charcoal stoves, and restrooms and showers. The park is highly used but I have never
failed to get a table to have a picnic.
The showers and restrooms are typical Washington State Parks restrooms,
nothing to be proud of but fairly well maintained. This area is a great place for a picnic.
Visit the Birch
Bay State Park web site.
The upper level
of Birch Bay State Park has additional picnic areas among the fir trees.
Behind the
picnic area is a campground.
It is a large park with many camping
spaces. It also contains an RV area
with many pull-through spaces and hook-up spaces with water and power. Birch Bay State Park is in the Washington
State Park Campsite Reservation System.

Take Interstate
5 Exit 266 Custer / Grandview Road, go West on the Grandview Road for 7 miles.
Turn Right and proceed on the Jackson Road for about 1 mile to the Helweg Road,
turn left and go a couple of blocks to the East (Main) entrance. The route is well signed.
