Brochure of the Forks Chamber

At the left is the brochure of the Forks Chamber of Commerce.  The Forks Chamber is active and its accomplishments result in making a tourists visit to Forks an interesting and pleasant experience.  They have a tourist friendly web site full of information for the visitor.

A hot link to their web site is at the bottom of the page.

The history of Forks, like many communities in Washington State, was that of a logging town.

The Timber Museum SignTimber Museum

They have a Timber Museum at the west end of town opposite the airport on Highway 101.  This is a great place to get a feel for the background of Forks and the people who started the community.  We spent an hour in the museum.

Visitor Center

The Visitor Center is a smart place to start your visit to the area.  They have brochures and up to the minute information about local activities.  They are located right beside the museum.

Use Forks as a base camp.

On our fact-finding and photography trip for this loop of US Highway 101 we allocated 15 minutes to the Forks Area.  That was our mistake!  If you have the time, you could reserve a motel in Forks for a week and at the end of that week you would have not seen everything within an easy day trip from Forks.  The cost of food and lodging is less expensive in Forks than in the high volume tourist areas or parks.  That makes Forks a good central base camp for those on a budget or those who forgot to make reservations long in advance.

Possible activities include salmon fishing, steelhead fishing, ocean fishing, ocean beaches, the National Park, the Hoh Rain Forest, Sol Duc Hot Springs, high country hiking, beach hiking, a historical Indian museum, art galleries, antique shops, gift shops, and much, much more to do within a day trip of Forks.  The great thing about forks is that you get the real feel of a small town on the Peninsula.

Totem Pole in Forks

The Chamber put out a Restaurant Guide for Forks, and to my surprise there are fifteen restaurants on the list.  If you eat three meals a day in Forks it will take you 5 days with no repeats just to try them all.  You can get the list at the visitor center west of town or on their Internet site hot linked below.

The Chamber also has put out a sheet called “5 day trips on the west side of the Olympic Peninsula”. They also have it (somewhat enhanced) on their web site on the activities page.  We suggest you look it up.  It has a lot of information about places to go and things to do that you will not want to miss in the Forks Area.

The totem pole below is one block east of the traffic light at the center of town.
