Among the many interesting points of Anacortes is the life size paintings on the walls of buildings in the downtown depicting historic Anacortes as can be seen in the photos.

1-temp

Anacortes is a small city in northwest Washington State.  It is at the western end of Skagit County.  Skagit County is shown in red in the map to the left.

Anacortes, WA is a unique small city West of Mount Vernon, WA.  Its roots are fishing and logging but those industries are gone now.  Anacortes is the Gateway to the San Juan Islands.  The ferry terminal for the Washington State Ferries  to the San Juan islands is located here.

Anacortes is a quiet interesting town with several interesting stores for the tourist to visit.  Anacortes is located on Fidalgo Island which is accessible by bridge.  Fidalgo Island is also the gateway to Whidbey Island via Highway 20 South.

The turnoff to Whidbey island is about 3 miles east of town on Highway 20.

A spur of Highway 20 goes through Anacortes, turns South just before the downtown area and leads to the Washington State Ferry terminal.
