Interstate-90

Ritzville, WA is located in Adams County in Washington State’s Palouse Country.  Grain is the major product grown in the local economy.  The Palouse is located in southeast Washington State.

Interstate-90 runs through Ritzville on its way from Seattle to Spokane.  Ritzville is 60 miles west of Spokane.

Ritzville was originally settled in the 1880’s and the area has a rich pioneer heritage.  In 1881 the Northern Pacific Railroad arrived giving Ritzville the transportation it needed to get its grain to market.  According to the Ritzville Chamber there was a time early in the 1900’s that Ritzville was the largest inland exporter of  wheat in the world.  It was a time of prosperity and many fine homes were built in this area.  The formerly busy streets are still lined with beautiful historic homes and bold brick commercial buildings.

Two Museums

Ritzville has two museums that are open to the public Monday thru Friday from 1 PM to 4 PM between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The Burroughs Home belonged to one of Ritzville’s pioneer physicians.  It has been restored to original condition and as collections of period clothing and household goods from the 1890’s to around 1920.

The old Northern Pacific Depot is located downtown and displays railroad and commercial equipment including the town’s original horse drawn hearse.

Waterpark

Ritzville also has a great water park with zero-depth entry wading area with pop-up jets.  If you have children with you this is a great place to take a break.  There is also a concession stand accessible from inside the pool area and outside from the adjacent city park.

Metal Sculptures

You will also find some great metal sculptures located around town.  You don’t want to miss the Bronco in front of the high school or the Wagon Train sculpture honoring Ritzville’s first settlers near the Depot Museum.  You will find three sculptures at the entrance to the City from Interstate-90.

Walking Path

Ritzville has a two mile long walking path that begins at the corner of Main & Division Streets and goes east toward the fairgrounds.  Past the fairgrounds it returns along the south edge of the town where you enjoy great views.  When it reaches Division Street it follows Division to the left back to Division & Main Streets, its beginning.
