	Grand Coulee is located on the Columbia River at the site of Grand Coulee Dam. There are also two lakes at Grand Coulee, Roosevelt Lake, formed by the damming of the Columbia River by Grand Coulee Dam and Banks Lake. Grand Coulee is located at the north end of Grant county in North Central Washington. Grant County is shown in red on the map to the left. Banks Lake Banks Lake is south of Grand Coulee Dam and many visitors think it is the Columbia River. Actually, the Columbia River heads north from the dam and Banks Lake is a huge man made lake formed by the diversion of the water from Lake Roosevelt. It is the third largest lake in Washington State.
Grand Coulee Dam Grand Coulee Dam is the largest concrete dam in North America and the third largest producer of electricity in the world. At the time of its construction in 1933 it was the largest producer in the world and the largest man-made object on this earth. The first water went over its spillway on June 1, 1942. Grand Coulee Dam is 5,223 feet long and 550 feet high. It has four power plants and 33 generators. Since 1989 it has had a laser light show projected in the dam each evening and it has a marvelous visitors center.
	Five Counties come together in this area; Ferry, Grant, Okanogan, Douglas, and Lincoln. Electric City and Grand Coulee are both in Grant County. The City of Coulee Dam is in Ferry County. Electric City is on the north end of Banks Lake and Coulee City is 26 miles south at the south end of Banks Lake. Coulee City is also in Grant County.
Grand Coulee is 84 miles west of Spokane via US Highway-2 and then at Wilber, WA you turn north on WA-174.
