Visitor information about the Tri-Cities area of Washington State.
Where are the
Tri-Cities?
Washington State’s Tri-Cities area is made up of three cities that
are so close to each other you can hardly tell which city you are in. The three cities are Kennewick, Pasco,
and Richland, WA. Additionally the
city of West Richland lies northeast of Richland.
These cities obviously
had individual beginnings and their founders gave no thought to motoring
visitors in the twenty-first century.
Finding your way around in the Tri-Cities area is a challenge.
A prime example is
Interstate-82. I-82 is labeled east
and west by the State of
|
|
Washington. When you
leave I-90 on I-82 you are headed eastbound to Yakima.
Yakima
is due south of Ellensburg where you leave I-90.
Further, Oregon just is not east of Washington
State let along Ellensburg,
WA which is in central Washington. So, if you want to go south to Oregon from the
Tri-Cities you must travel east on I-82.
We found most of the
signage in the area for the locals.
We couldn’t find the historic downtown areas of the three cities,
there simply is no signage.

The Cable Bridge over
the Columbia between Pasco and Kennewick
|
There is a regional mall
in west Kennewick. We found the mall
by accident after a lot of driving around.
The mall was not even listed in the Tri-Cities 2007 guide book we
found in our hotel visitor information center
So, traveler-be-aware but
don’t stay away. The Tri-Cities has
a lot to offer and we enjoyed our time in the area and plan to go back
We have pages for
Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland with visitor information for each city.

Sacajawea
State Park
Just south of Pasco is
Sacajawea State Park where The Lewis and Clark expedition camped both on
October 16, 1805 and on April 27-29, 1806.
There is an interpretive center in the State Park.
We have more information
and links to the State Park’s web site on our Pasco page.

The Steel Bridge over the Columbia between Pasco
and Kennewick.
|
The Columbia
All three cities of the
Tri-Cities are located on the banks of the Columbia River. The river and the bridges over the river
are an all important part of life in the Tri-Cities. The river not only brings water to the
Tri-Cities, it brings electricity, transportation, fishing, boating,
swimming, tours, and a host of other attractions. Along the river you will find parks and
walking paths.
