Visitor Information about Waldport, OR.  Waldport, Oregon is located on the Central Oregon Coast at the junction of US Highway-101 and Oregon Highway-34.

Getting There

Waldport is 133 miles or about 2½ hours from Portland via Interstate-5, US-20, and OR-34.  The last leg of this trip will take you through the Siuslaw National Forest along the Alsea River to the coast from the Willamette River Valley.

If you are traveling US-101 Waldport is 15 miles south of Newport and 27 miles north of Florence.  Waldport is 190 miles from the California State Line and 138 miles from the Washington State Line.

About Waldport

If coming from the north, your first impression of Waldport will be the Alsea Bay Bridge.  This magnificent new bridge was built in the 1990’s to replace the historic bridge that stood here for over 50 years.  Unfortunately due to the deterioration of the reinforcing steel in the concrete on the bridge it had to be replaced.

You second impression of Waldport, no matter what direction you enter from, should be the Visitor Information Center at the south end of the Alsea Bay Bridge.

The visitor center has a large display of regional brochures and a helpful staff to answer your questions.  It also has a small museum with information about the history of the area and the building of both the original Alsea Bay Bridge and its replacement.

Waldport was first settled in the 1870’s.  Forest products logging and dairy farming along with commercial fishing were the bulk of the economy.  Although there is still some logging and fishing in the area, the canneries, dairy farms, and lumber mills are gone.
