Visitor information about Yachats, OR.  Yachats, Oregon is located on the Central Oregon Coast on US Highway-101.  It is 27 miles north of Florence and 23 miles south of Newport.  Yachats is pronounced (YAH-hots).

It is thought that the name Yachats is a durative of the Chinook word yahuts which means “dark waters at the foot of a mountain.”

This small town has a population of only 630 people.  Obviously many of them must work in the tourist industry because there are 13 establishments that offer over 370 rooms in the community.  That means that if two people occupy each room that the population of Yachats doubles when the inns are full.

Obviously, a lot of people enjoy the quiet atmosphere of the area.  The mountains of the Coast Range meet the ocean here and it is breath taking to watch the waves of winter storms crash on the rocks of Cape Perpetua south of town.

This is a place that people visit during all of the seasons.
