Visitor Information for Albany, Oregon.  Albany is located in our Central Western Oregon sub-region of northwest Oregon State.

Where is Albany, OR

Albany, OR is located in Linn County in the heart of the Willamette Valley.  Albany is about 67 miles south of Portland, Oregon on Interstate-5 at Exits 228, 233 and 234.  Portland is at Exit 300, 300 miles north of the California State Line.

The Willamette Valley is a rich agricultural area west of the Cascade Mountains that separate Western Oregon from Eastern Oregon.  The Cascade Mountains run down the middle of the State of Oregon.  The Willamette Valley is also east of the Coastal Mountain Range that separates the Valley from the Pacific Ocean that lies 50 miles to the west as the crow flies.

About Albany

The original draw to Albany for the settlers of the region was the fertile soil in the Willamette Valley.  Today Albany is known for its agriculture, wood products, food processing, manufactured homes, and production of rare metals like zirconium, hafnium, and titanium.

Today you will find crops like grapes, corn, beans, hazel nuts, mint, beans, and grass seed grown in the area.

Albany has a population approaching 44,000 and Linn County has a population over 103,000 people.  Rarely will you find temperatures above 95 or below 25 degrees in this area.

The Willamette River is one of the main attractions in the area.  Here the river is nearly void of the commercial traffic you find in the Portland area so the river is used mainly for water skiing, boating, canoeing, and other water sports.

The unique thing about the Willamette River is that it is only one of a few rivers in the United States that flows northward.
