The Town of Coburg

Coburg, Oregon is located near the site of a Calapooia Indian Village along the McKenzie River in Central Western Oregon.  Coburg, OR is known for its historic architecture, historic sites, and antique shops.

 

Where is Coburg?

Coburg is most easily found by traveling 101 miles south from Portland to Interstate-5 Exit 199 and turning west, you are in Coburg, OR.

 

Coburg is also 7 miles north of Eugene and Springfield Oregon.  Coburg is about an hours drive to the Pacific Coast and about an hour’s drive to the recreational opportunities that the Cascade Mountain Range offer.

 

 

A little Coburg History

Coburg was first settled in 1847 by Pioneers John Diamond and Jacob Spores.  A local blacksmith shoed an imported a stallion form Coburg.  The blacksmith hung the old horse shoes on the wall with a sign, “I name this place Coburg” and the name stuck.

Coburg Today

This historic city has maintained its historic character so well that the City of Coburg was awarded recognition as a National Historic District.  The City has over 187 structures and sites in the designation.
