The Towns of

Halsey & Brownsville

The Towns of Halsey & Brownsville are in central western Oregon.  They lie in the southern end of the Willamette River Valley, one of the most fertile areas in the United States.

 

Where are the Towns of

Brownsville & Halsey?

The easiest way to find Brownsville and Halsey is to travel Interstate-5 south form Portland, Oregon about 84 miles to I-5 Exit 216. 

 

You will find the City of Halsey about 2 miles west of the Exit.  You will find Brownsville 2 miles east of the Exit.

 

City of Brownsville

Brownsville is a town of 1500 people founded in the 1840’s.  Historic downtown Brownsville is a collection of stores, cafes, and antique shops in buildings built from 1840 to 1930 that are typical of rural cities.  Brownsville has many interesting residences dating back to the 1850’s.  Downtown Brownsville has been the backdrop for several movies because of its authentic turn of the century look

 

One of the city’s main attractions is Pioneer Park, a 26 acre facility located on the Calapooia River.  Brownsville hosts the Pioneer Picnic on the third weekend of June.  It brings thousands

of visitors to the city each year to see the oldest continuously held celebration in the State of Oregon.  It was established in 1887.

 

The City of Halsey

Halsey, Oregon is a city of over 700 people.  The City was founded in 1871.  Originally one of its main industries in the town was the shipping of the wheat grown on the farms in the area on the railroad.  The wheat crops are gone today and this area has become a world leader in the production of grass seed.

Operated  by Linn County Parks, the museum houses one of only three remaining wagons that crossed the Oregon Trail.  Housed in a former Southern Pacific Depot you will find an early telephone switchboard, a wollen mill, a bank, and a doctor’s office among its displays.
