The city of Kent, WA is just
seven miles from SeaTac International Airport
and 19 mi. form downtown Seattle. Kent, Washington is centrally located in the Seattle
Metropolitan area halfway between Seattle
and Tacoma. It is at the heart of the Green River Valley
with beautiful views of Mount Rainier.
To reach Kent,
WA take Interstate-5 Exit 149
then travel east for 3.5 miles on WA-516.
History
Originally a major grower of hops and berries, Kent was named after Kent County the English hops
growing center. After the hops crops were destroyed by disease in 1895, area
farmers turned to dairy and produce. Once known as the “Lettuce Capital of
the World” and also where the first can of Carnation Milk was produced, Kent
has a rich agricultural history. In 1965 The Boeing company put a plant in Kent helping to boost the manufacturing
industry in Kent.
Today Kent has a diverse business base including retail stores,
corporate offices, warehouse, industrial and manufacturing companies.

Area Attractions
Kent Station
This new urban village
opened in November of 2005. Kent Station is a 470,000 square foot retail,
entertainment and residential project with a 30,000 square foot civic plaza
for festivals, concerts and other events. In it’s first phase it will open
restaurants such as The Ram, and Duke’s Chowder House, retail stores like
Journey’s, Zumiez and PacSun, a branch of the Green River Community
College and an AMC 14-screen theatre. For

The Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum
The nation’s only powerboat racing museum opened in 1983
in Kent. It houses an extensive collection of
photos, trophies, books, articles, and other memorabilia from the sport of
hydroplane racing. They have vintage race films dating back to the 1940’s.

The Outdoors
Duwamish-Green River Trail
Comprised of over 10 miles of trails that also connect
to the Interurban Trail for a total of 30 miles of trails. This beautiful
trail leads you from North Green River Park
or Riverbend Golf Complex in Kent,
to Fort Dent
Park in Tukwila, Auburn Narrows
Park, or into West
Seattle.
The Green River
Natural Resource Area
This project transformed an old sewage lagoon system
into a combined wetland and stormwater detention facility. This 304-acre
site holds a diverse wildlife habitat, including some 165 bird and 53 mammal
species. The adjoining public park and trail system make this one of the
largest man-made multi-use wildlife refuges in the country. Beautiful nature walks, wildlife viewing
towers, and a bike path along the west and south of the site are both educational
and recreational.
