Rent, Washington is located at the south end of Lake Washington in the Seattle Metropolitan area.  Renton, WA is best found at Interstate-405 Exit 2.  The downtown area is to the north of the exit.  Boeing Aircraft Corporation has a large facility on Lake Washington in Renton, WA.

 

History

Originally home to the Duwamish Tribe, Renton was covered with dense forests and had the Black and Cedar Rivers running through it. The first settlers Henry and Diana Tobin built their home on the banks of the rivers in 1853. When Henry died in 1857, Diana remarried Erasmus Smithers who platted the town of Renton. Smithers along with Captain William Renton founded the Renton Coal Company in 1873. Captain Renton, who was a wealthy businessman also founded the first saw mill and was in charge of construction of the first railroad to the area.

Spirit of Washington Dinner Train

Take a nostalgic trip on this magnificent collection of vintage train cars from Renton to the Columbia Winery in Woodinville enjoying a gourmet meal along the way. Cedar River Park

This 23-acre community park is the center for a lot of community attractons in Renton. The Carco Theatre, Renton Community Center and Henry Moss Aquatic Center are all located within this same complex.

The Carco Theatre features plays, musicals, and concerts throughout the year. This 300 seat facility is also available to rent for receptions, meetings etc.

The Renton Community Center hosts many recreational programs for children and adults. This 2,200 square foot facility includes a fitness room, gym, meeting room, and banquet facilities. It is an activity center frequented by many local residents.

The Henry Moses Aquatic Center is at the northeast corner of the park. It features water slides, a lap pool, a leisure pool with wave machine and water spray features and a concession area. For more information visit their website.

 

 

 

Shopping

Renton is the only Washington location for some popular stores like Ikea, the world’s largest furnishings retailer and Frye’s Electronics store. Head to the downtown area for antique shopping and other unique boutiques.
